- Yes, your techie friend is incorrect. Your internal modem should be
- equipped with a 16550 (USR has these) or an emulator (most Rockwell
- chipset brands use these) which works as well.

- Poor UART chips (16450, 82450, and [ugh] 8250's) do not handle the higher
- speeds well though they can be adequate depending upon environment.
